Instagram: Changing Table Vs Dresser
Getting the baby's room ready is a major step in preparing for their arrival. With all the necessary parts that go into preparing for your little one, deciding which furniture is best can be a challenge. There are obvious choices, like a crib and a dresser to store baby’s clothing. However, finding the right space to change a baby can be a tough choice. There are two ways to do so: choosing a changing topper for a dresser or purchasing an actual changing table. Here is some information on both choices.
Changing Table
Just like a baby needs a place to sleep, a baby also needs a place for diaper changes. Parents have the option of a changing table, which is a full-sized table with deep walls to keep baby safe while being changed, a changing table gives more room for storage. Easily store baby’s diapers, wipes, and other necessities on the shelves or drawers under the table. It all depends on preference, especially if you don’t want the baby's changing pad to take up space on their dresser. Most changing tables are sold to match the crib you are selecting as well, so matching all the furniture in the nursery is simple. However, changing tables to take up more space in the room. They can be bigger and bulkier, so for parents that are preparing a nursery that is not overly big, a changing table may not be the right choice.
Dresser Changing Topper or Pad
Babies need a dresser, no matter what. There will always be the need to have a place to store their clothing. A six to seven drawer dresser provides incredible space, storage, and style. Most companies offer dressers in the same style and finish that match the finish on the baby's crib as well, so you can truly finish any nursery in matching style. With incredible features such as lind top drawers, dovetail finishes, and smooth closing glides, these dressers are sturdy and reliable, and can grow with baby as their crib does. Most companies also offer a changing topper - a box with a changing pad in it - as an alternative to a changing table. The topper is good for smaller nurseries, but can take up a ton of space on the baby’s dresser. There are also modern changing pad alternatives - like the Leander Matty changing pad and the Keekaroo Peanut Changer.
Changing tables generally have a bit of a lip on the edge, making it so that it can be difficult for the baby to roll off. This gives the illusion that it is a safer alternative to a changing topper. A changing pad needs to also be purchased to place both in a changing topper and on a changing table. The changing pads generally come with a buckle to strap baby in, but these straps alone cannot be relied on to keep baby secure. Even the youngest babies should never be left alone on the changing table, even for a second. In terms of safety, both are equally as safe, but need adult supervision at all times.
