Bambi Baby: Important Safety Pointers for you and your little one!
Important New Baby Safety Tips
Being a new parent is scary. There are many things to consider and tons of sometimes conflicting information available; it's hard to know how to keep your baby safe. We'll cover some top baby safety concerns, from baby safety locks to co-sleeping — and how to enhance safety for babies of all ages. Check with your pediatrician if you ever have questions or concerns about your little one's growth, development or health.
Here is a list of key baby safety tips for you and your new little one.
Back is Best
Gone are the days of babies sleeping on their bellies. To drastically reduce the chance of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), experts recommend making sure that the baby falls asleep on their back. Safety for babies sleeping in car seats or carriers is paramount. Babies should never sleep in a car seat unless strapped in correctly and supervised. Sleeping on an incline is also extremely dangerous for newborns.
Baby safety experts agree that supervised tummy time is vitally important to help your baby prevent flat spots on their head and to help them develop core muscle strength, coordination and balance.

Sleep Sacks
Baby safety experts recommend avoiding using a blanket in the baby's crib until they are at least 12 months old. This greatly drops the risk of suffocation. Sleepsacks allow newborns to stay warm without the use of blankets. Make sure it is loose enough to put on easily but not so loose that it rides up toward your baby's face or neck. Also verify that all bedding and clothing are fire-resistant.
Co-Sleeping
For babies less than 12 months old, co-sleeping raises the risk of SIDS. However, it has been proven beneficial for bonding when co-sleeping is done safely and appropriately. Do not co-sleep until the baby is at least a year old. Room sharing is perfectly acceptable as long as your baby is in their crib or bassinet.

Bottle Warmer & Sterilizer
When heating a baby's bottle, NEVER place it in the microwave — there is no way to measure the temperature. Baby bottle warmers heat the bottle safely and prevent the milk from getting too warm. Bottle-related baby safety also includes cleaning the bottles and other supplies properly. Always be sure to wash and sterilize bottles after every use, either by boiling the nipples or using a microwave steam sterilizer.
Food Storage
Baby safety tips for milk vary between breastfeeding and using formula. When storing breast milk, always remember that it is safe for four hours on the counter freshly expressed and four days in the fridge. Getting close to those times? Refrigerate newly expressed milk and freeze milk close to the four-day mark in breast milk storage bags or freezer-appropriate bottles. Never mix freshly expressed warm milk with cold milk — it can cause bacteria to grow and potentially make the baby sick.
When feeding baby formula, follow the CDC Infant Formula Preparation and Storage Guidelines to ensure baby safety:
● Use prepared formula within two hours of mixing.
● Store mixed formula in the refrigerator for no more than 24 hours.
Natural or Organic Products
Most people don't normally think about safety for babies and the products or brands they choose. Many contain toxic ingredients or can irritate babies' skin and should be avoided. Babies also have sensitive skin, so look for products without chemicals or unnecessary fragrances. Always choose:
● Diapers that are ammonia and chemical-free.
● Laundry detergent that is clear and unscented and has minimal ingredients.
● Baby wash and lotion that is natural and organic.
● Chemical-free dish soap.
There is less risk of introducing harmful chemicals into the baby's body or irritating their skin when using these products. Even if your products are safe, you still need baby safety locks to keep them out of babies' hands and mouths.
Car Seat Usage
Safety for babies is not guaranteed when they are in a car seat. Be sure that the infant's car seat has a sturdy five-point harness, and that bases are leveled when installed into a car. Also, babies should not be kept in a car seat for more than two hours at a time. On long trips, remove the baby from the car seat for at least an hour for every two hours traveled. The importance of a bassinet cannot be understated when newborn babies are in a stroller, ensuring they are able to recline fully. Never leave a baby unattended.
