Introducing the Veer Hauler: The Next Step After the Stroller

Written By: Stephanie Giustino - Mom | Baby Gear Expert for 15 years

Congratulations! The stroller years are behind you.

You’ve made it through the toddler years, your little one is no longer so little, and now that little-big kid would much rather walk independently beside you than be strapped into their “baby” stroller. It can feel like an exciting step forward—a breath of relief that you no longer have to wrestle a stroller into the trunk, clean spills and crumbs out of every crevice of the seat fabric, or adjust the harness height “one more time.”

For some parents, folding that stroller one last time and storing it in the corner of the garage may even feel a little emotional. And understandably so. It signifies the end of an era.

However you feel about retiring your trusty stroller, there is one thing all parents have in common: we’re only built with two hands, and somehow, those two hands are never enough.

Once you’re back out in the real world, moving through the same daily family routine and weekend outings, that dusty stroller sitting in the corner of the garage may start calling to you like a beacon of hope. We know what you’re missing: that ginormous storage basket.

After all, there is no diaper bag, backpack, or purse large enough to carry all the “stuff” that somehow still comes along on every adventure—jackets, blankets, lunchboxes, coolers, toys, water bottles, books, snacks, hand sanitizer, beach gear, sports equipment. Who is supposed to manage all of that? Because, as every parent knows, the children certainly aren’t doing it.

So what happens when your stroller used to carry it all—and now the stroller has been decommissioned?

There needs to be something next. A next step after the stroller that can manage the load with organization and ease.

That’s where Veer comes in with the new Veer Hauler, a modular gear-hauling system designed for everything that comes next.

Because kids may outgrow the stroller, but families definitely don’t outgrow all the stuff.

In this article, we’ll introduce you to the new Veer Hauler, explain how its modular SmartDeck and SmartBin system works, and look at why this purpose-built hauler may be exactly what families need after the stroller years are over.

What Is the Veer Hauler?

The Veer Hauler is a modular gear-hauling system designed to carry your family’s stuff—not your children. And that distinction is important. Unlike the Veer Cruiser and Cruiser XL, which are built to transport kids and gear, the Hauler starts with an entirely different purpose: helping families move, organize, and manage everything that comes along once the kids are walking on their own.

At its foundation is a rugged aircraft-grade aluminum frame with Veer’s built-in SmartDeck, a three-panel flatbed with integrated tie-down points. The included 100-liter Large SmartBin sits securely into recesses in the deck when you want a traditional wagon-style cargo space, but it can also lift completely off. That means you can pack the SmartBin at home, move the entire bin into your vehicle, place it back onto the Hauler when you arrive, and remove it again without unloading and repacking everything in between.

Remove the SmartBin and the SmartDeck becomes a flatbed for larger or awkwardly shaped gear. Add more SmartBins, use standard storage containers, attach specialized accessories, upgrade the wheels, carry folding chairs on the frame, or even connect the Hauler to a bike. The system can be pushed or pulled, switches between the two on the fly, folds flat for storage, and is rated to haul up to 500 pounds when pulled or 300 pounds when pushed on smooth, hard, flat ground.

So while it may look like a wagon at first glance, the Hauler is really something different. Veer has taken the rugged construction and outdoor versatility the brand is known for and built a dedicated cargo system around the way families actually pack, transport, use, and store their gear.

One thing it is not: a stroller wagon. Veer specifically states that the Hauler is not intended to carry children. If you still need seats for little passengers, the Veer Cruiser family remains the right place to look.

Why Would a Parent Need a Hauler After the Stroller?

From day one, your stroller carries your little one—and that trusty undercarriage basket carries everything else.

Eventually, though, the day comes when your child either maxes out the stroller’s weight capacity or flat-out refuses to be strapped in anymore. From that point on, they’re walking beside you everywhere.

But where does everything else go?

Everything that used to live in that basket isn’t going to walk alongside you too, and it certainly isn’t disappearing. Maybe you’re no longer packing diapers and extra onesies, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be plenty of other things that need to come along.

Stroller-aged kids require a lot of “what if” items—the essentials, the just-in-case-we’re-always-prepared stuff that inevitably makes the final cut before you leave the house. The nice thing is, when the kids are tiny, most of their must-haves are tiny too. Bottles, wipes, snacks, extra clothes, toys—they fit pretty neatly into a stroller basket that, if you were lucky, could hold around 30 pounds.

Then the kids get bigger, and so does the stuff.

Backpacks get heavier. Water bottles get larger. Sports gear enters the picture. Beach chairs replace baby blankets. Coolers replace diaper bags. As family life changes, so do the essentials.

A hauler is designed to bear the weight of everyday family life—and those long weekend outings—for you.

Speaking from experience, my daughters have long since outgrown their stroller years. We are an outdoor-loving family, and our weekends are usually spent outside hauling all the things.

Living by the shore, from May through October we spend a lot of days at the beach. Just because my girls are too old for sandcastles doesn’t mean we suddenly have nothing to carry. The beach haul has simply evolved.

We still bring a bucket and shovel, because someone always wants to get buried or collect seashells. Then there’s the activity gear: paddle ball, beach bocce, a football. The water stuff: a stash of goggles because someone always loses a pair, floats, boogie boards, the inflatable paddleboard. Then comes the setup—everyone needs a chair, an umbrella, a beach blanket, towels.

And we haven’t even touched the food yet.

You can only hope it all fits in one cooler: drinks, sandwiches, fruit, chips, and what somehow feels like an endless supply of snacks.

You get it.

And even with the superhuman mom strength I’ve developed over the years—the special power that lets us use our arms like a grocery-bag rack so we can carry twenty bags into the house in one trip—it is still no match for a full day’s worth of beach gear. Especially when it’s time to pack up, everyone has had enough, and the sun has completely drained whatever energy you had left.

The beach is only one example.

My family also spends weekends at soccer games, but for every family it looks a little different. Baseball, lacrosse, softball, football—it’s all the same idea. Your athlete needs their gear. You want your own chair. You need weather protection because, of course, they’re playing whether it’s raining or 100 degrees outside. Someone is always hungry, so there’s a cooler and snacks. And if siblings are coming along, you’ll probably need entertainment for the kids who cannot be bothered to actually watch the game.

Then there are weekend farmers markets. You arrive with a list and a budget, fully intending to stick to both. Of course, you don’t—because everything looks amazing and it’s locally sourced, so clearly it doesn’t count. Then you’re left wondering how you’re supposed to carry all those incredible finds back to the car. Your arms? Reusable bags hanging from every limb?

Whether you’re a beach family, a lake family, a sports family, a farmers market loyalist, a park-picnic regular, a zoo-going family, or a camping enthusiast, the problem is the same: family life still comes with a lot to carry.

The Veer Hauler is designed to take on the stuff your arms are tired of managing alone.

Because even when your child no longer needs a ride, everything else still does.

Why the Right Hauler Matters

When my stroller days were over, we managed without one for a while. We packed lighter, our outings lasted only as long as my kids did, and when their patience ran out, we all went home.

But every year, they could—and wanted to—stay out a little longer. Eventually, those quick outings turned into full-day adventures. Then came the hours-long sporting events. At some point, it became very clear: I needed something to carry all the stuff.

Something that could actually hold the weight. Something I could pull. Something that didn't require me to become the family pack mule.

I had already noticed all those “smart” families arriving with wagons and realized I was apparently late to the party. So, naturally, I went to Amazon—cough—and bought myself an “easy-to-fold,” “all-terrain” wagon.

I made that purchase specifically for a lake day we had planned. As I mentioned, we're a beach family. The shore is only about half a mile from home, so going to the lake feels like something special. My daughters' favorite lake is about an hour away, and their favorite spot there happens to be another mile in on foot, down a heavily rooted trail through the woods.

But at the end of that trail is a clearing with crystal-clear water—a bit of a best-kept secret among locals.

It always sounds like a fantastic idea.

Then we arrive, unload the trunk, throw everything onto our backs, and start hiking. Inevitably, halfway down the trail everyone needs to stop and readjust, and whoever has been carrying the cooler graciously passes that burden along to the next victim.

But not this time.

This time, we had an all-terrain wagon.

We loaded everything into it, made our way through the woods, reached the clearing, and high-fived one another when we got there. This was genius. Why hadn't we done this years ago?

Seven hours later, tired and ready to head home, we loaded everything back into our brilliant new wagon and started down the trail toward the car.

Halfway through the woods, one of the front wheels snapped clean off.

Not loosened. Not wobbled.

Snapped off.

And there was absolutely no way to reattach it.

I silently cried for a moment before four sets of hands lifted the entire wagon off the ground—along with everything we had so conveniently packed inside it—and carried the whole thing the remaining half mile through the woods.

Lesson learned.

Or so you would think.

I went back to Amazon and traded up for the “better” model.

Two weeks later, we parked at the beach, loaded our shiny new-and-improved wagon, and started across the wooden boardwalk toward the sand. It wasn't overloaded. We weren't navigating rocks, roots, or some extreme off-road adventure.

We were walking across a boardwalk.

And the handle tore clean off.

You guessed it: that couldn't be reattached either.

That was when I finally learned the lesson.

Quality, materials, and construction matter.

A hauler is only useful if you can trust it once it's loaded. Weight capacity on paper doesn't mean very much if the wheels, frame, handle, or connection points aren't built to manage that weight in real life. And “all-terrain” doesn't mean much if the product can't survive the terrain your family actually encounters.

I learned that lesson twice, so you don't have to.

Veer Hauler in different modes of use

What Makes the Veer Hauler Different From a Typical Folding Wagon?

What makes the Veer Hauler different from a typical folding wagon is that it isn’t built around one big cargo compartment. The Hauler starts with a flatbed-style SmartDeck, then lets you add, remove, stack, secure, and organize cargo depending on what the day calls for.

In other words, you’re not trying to make all of your stuff fit the wagon. You can make the Hauler fit your stuff.

SmartDeck: Carry the Gear That Doesn’t Fit Neatly in a Wagon

At the foundation of the Hauler is Veer’s three-panel SmartDeck, a flatbed with integrated tie-down points.

Remove the SmartBin and you have an open platform for the things that never fit particularly well inside a traditional wagon—folding chairs, coolers, sports equipment, camping gear, storage containers, or other oversized and awkwardly shaped items.

Add the SmartBin back on and the same Hauler becomes a contained cargo wagon again.

That ability to move between flatbed and bin storage is a big part of what separates the Hauler from the typical folding wagon.

SmartBin: Pack It Once and Keep It Packed

The included Large SmartBin may be the feature parents appreciate most.

Instead of packing everything into the car, unloading it at your destination, repacking it into a wagon, and then repeating the whole process when it’s time to go home, the SmartBin itself becomes part of the transportation system.

Pack the bin at home → load the bin into the car → place it on the Hauler → remove it when you’re done.

Parents spend enough time packing and unpacking everyone else’s things. Anything that removes a few rounds from that process has my attention.

SmartBins seat directly into recesses in the SmartDeck, collapse flat when empty, and can stack up to three high. You can even leave a collapsed SmartBin attached when the Hauler is folded.

And you aren’t limited to Veer storage. The SmartDeck can also accommodate standard storage bins, containers, and pet beds, making it easy to create grab-and-go setups for different parts of family life—a sports bin, beach bin, camping bin, or whatever makes sense for your routine.

Push It or Pull It

Most wagons give you one way to move them. The Hauler gives you both.

Fold the handle down to pull it behind you or lock it upright to push. You can switch between the two on the fly, and the handle adjusts in both height and angle.

That may sound like a small detail until you’re moving a heavy load across a parking lot, down a path, or through uneven terrain. Sometimes pulling makes more sense. Sometimes pushing does. You don’t have to commit to one.

It Folds Without Becoming Another Project

A serious hauler still has to fit in your trunk or garage when the adventure is over.

The Hauler frame folds flat in one step, and the SmartBin can collapse while staying attached. If you need an even slimmer footprint, the wheels release with one touch.

That means less disassembly at the end of an already long day—which, if you’ve ever packed up the beach with exhausted kids, is a feature worth appreciating.

It’s Built to Carry a Real Load

The Veer Hauler is rated to pull up to 500 pounds and push up to 300 pounds on smooth, hard, flat ground. The included Large SmartBin adds 100 liters of organized storage, while bigger items can ride directly on the SmartDeck.

Just as important, Veer built the Hauler around an aircraft-grade aluminum frame with soft-tread polyurethane wheels, a water- and stain-resistant SmartBin, all-terrain capability, and a one-touch foot brake designed to hold on inclines.

The SmartBin is also hose washable and the system is designed to resist rust and wear.

Because family gear gets sandy, muddy, wet, sticky, and heavy. A hauler meant for real family life should be ready for all of it.

One Hauler, Different Ways to Carry

Veer Hauler Modes of Use

Use the included SmartBin when you want contained, organized storage, or remove it to turn the Hauler into an open SmartDeck flatbed for larger and awkwardly shaped gear.

SmartBin Mode

Pack It, Move It, Keep It Organized

Seat the included Large SmartBin directly into the SmartDeck when you want a contained cargo space that can move from home to car to Hauler without unpacking everything in between.

Best For

  • Beach towels, toys and smaller gear
  • Sports supplies and sideline essentials
  • Picnic and farmers market hauls
  • Camping supplies
  • Food, snacks and everyday family gear
  • Creating pre-packed activity bins
SmartDeck Mode

Make Room for the Big Stuff

Lift off the SmartBin and the three-panel SmartDeck becomes an open flatbed with integrated tie-down points, giving oversized or awkward gear a place to ride without forcing it into a traditional wagon body.

Best For

  • Coolers and larger containers
  • Folding chairs
  • Sports equipment
  • Camping gear
  • Long or unusually shaped items
  • Standard storage bins and pet beds

You Don’t Have to Choose Just One

The real advantage of the Hauler is that the SmartDeck and SmartBin work as one system. Use the included bin for organized cargo, remove it when you need the full flatbed, or build out your setup with additional SmartBins, compatible containers, racks and tie-down accessories as your family's needs change.

The Veer Hauler is designed for cargo and is not intended to transport children.
Veer Hauler Modes of Use

Where Would Families Actually Use the Veer Hauler?

The Veer Hauler makes the most sense on the days when family life comes with more gear than anyone realistically wants to carry. From sports weekends to beach days, camping trips, outdoor events, and travel, it gives all that stuff a place to go.

Sports Tournaments and Sidelines

Tournament days have a way of turning one game into an entire day away from home. Between the athlete’s equipment and everything the rest of the family needs to stay comfortable, the gear adds up fast.

✓ Folding chairs
✓ Sports bags and equipment
✓ Balls and training gear
✓ Cooler
✓ Water bottles
✓ Snacks
✓ Extra shoes and clothing
✓ Jackets and rain gear
✓ Blankets
✓ Pop-up shelter or canopy

Beach Days

A beach trip rarely means carrying just a towel anymore. The Hauler gives families room for the setup, the food, the activities, and all the extras that somehow multiply between the house and the shoreline.

✓ Beach chairs
✓ Cooler
✓ Towels
✓ Beach bags
✓ Umbrella
✓ Beach tent or shelter
✓ Toys and buckets
✓ Boogie boards and floats
✓ Paddle games and other beach activities
✓ Extra clothing and water

Families who regularly haul gear across sand can also add Veer’s optional Beach Wheel Kit.

Camping and Outdoor Weekends

Camping gear is rarely neat, uniform, or easy to carry. The Hauler’s combination of SmartBin storage and an open SmartDeck can be especially useful when you are mixing packed supplies with bulky equipment.

✓ Coolers
✓ Camping bins
✓ Food and cooking supplies
✓ Bedding and blankets
✓ Firewood
✓ Lanterns and lighting
✓ Folding chairs
✓ Outdoor games
✓ Tents and shelters
✓ Other bulky camping equipment

Parks, Outdoor Concerts and Festivals

These are the outings where everyone insists they can carry their own things—right up until they decide they can’t.

The Hauler can take on the setup so your arms don’t have to.

✓ Folding chairs
✓ Blankets
✓ Picnic supplies
✓ Cooler
✓ Food and drinks
✓ Jackets and sweatshirts
✓ Backpacks
✓ Sunscreen and everyday essentials
✓ Games and activities

Family Travel

The Hauler can also be useful simply for getting a lot of family gear from one place to another, especially when the distance between the car and your destination is longer than expected.

✓ Luggage and duffel bags
✓ Coolers
✓ Beach gear
✓ Pool bags
✓ Sports equipment
✓ Groceries
✓ Camping supplies
✓ Vacation-rental essentials
✓ Gear moving between parking areas and venues

Think car to vacation rental, hotel to beach, parking lot to tournament field, or campsite to wherever everyone is setting up for the day.

Dogs and Pet Gear

One important distinction: the Veer Hauler is not intended to carry children, but Veer specifically designed it to accommodate dogs.

The optional Large Dog Pad can be secured directly to the SmartDeck, or used inside a secured SmartBin for another way to bring your four-legged family member along.

✓ Dog Pad
✓ Leash and harness
✓ Food and water
✓ Bowls
✓ Towels
✓ Toys
✓ Pet bed
✓ Other outdoor pet gear

For families who spend a lot of time outside with their dog, that gives the Hauler another useful role long after the stroller years are over.

Veer Hauler Accessories: Build the System Around Your Family

One of the biggest advantages of the Veer Hauler is that you do not have to use it the same way every time. Veer built the system around interchangeable accessories, so a setup that works for a Saturday soccer tournament can look completely different from one headed to the beach, campsite, or farmers market.

The key is choosing accessories based on what your family actually carries.

Storage and Organization

Additional SmartBins — Large and Small
Extra SmartBins make it easy to create pre-packed setups for different activities. Keep sports gear in one, beach supplies in another, or organize smaller items separately instead of repacking the same bin every weekend.

Tabletop for SmartBin
The Tabletop turns a loaded SmartBin into a usable surface, giving you a convenient place for food, drinks, or other items once you reach your destination.

Lunch Cooler
Adds dedicated insulated storage for food and drinks—especially useful for tournaments, beach days, picnics, and long outings where snacks are basically part of the equipment list.

Secure the Load

Bungee Kit
Additional bungees help keep bins and loose gear secure while the Hauler is moving.

Tie Downs
Tie Downs give you another way to anchor cargo to the SmartDeck, especially when carrying larger or unusually shaped items.

Tailgate
The Tailgate adds more flexibility when using the Hauler in its open SmartDeck configuration, helping manage loads that do not fit neatly inside a bin.

Make Room for Folding Chairs

Hauler Rack
If your family spends a lot of time at sports fields, beaches, concerts, or outdoor events, this may be one of the most useful accessories in the lineup.

The Hauler Rack is designed to carry folding chairs directly on the frame, keeping some of the most awkward pieces of family gear out of the main cargo area and freeing up room for everything else.

Turn the Hauler Into a Bike Trailer

Bike Connector Kit
The Bike Connector Kit extends the Hauler beyond walking trips by connecting the tow arm to the bicycle’s rear axle.

When the Hauler is being towed, the swivel wheels can be stored inside the SmartBin. For families who bike to parks, beaches, campsites, or other outdoor destinations, that gives the Hauler an entirely different way to travel.

Upgrade for the Terrain

Beach Wheel Kit
Designed for beach and trail use, the Beach Wheel Kit gives families another option when standard wheels are not ideal for the surface ahead.

High Performance Wheel Kit
The pneumatic High Performance Wheel Kit offers another terrain-focused upgrade for families who expect to put the Hauler through more demanding outdoor use.

Bring the Dog Along

Large Dog Pad
Unlike children, dogs are welcome in the Hauler.

The Large Dog Pad can be secured directly to the SmartDeck, or used inside a secured Large SmartBin to create a more comfortable riding space for your four-legged family member.

Store It at Home

Garage Hanger
The Garage Hanger gives the Hauler a dedicated storage solution when it is not being used, which can be especially helpful when garage floor space is already at a premium.

The Gear You’re Hauling

Veer also offers a broader lineup of outdoor gear designed for the same kinds of family adventures the Hauler is built to support, including products like the Family Basecamp, Beach Chairs, Sideline Chairs, Boogie Boards, and other beach and outdoor essentials.

That makes the Hauler especially easy to picture as part of a larger family setup. Load the chairs, boards, shelter, cooler, towels, and all the other bulky extras into one system and move everything together instead of making multiple trips or dividing the load between whoever still has a free hand.

That is really where the Hauler makes the most sense: not as one more piece of gear, but as the thing that helps you carry everything else.

Veer Hauler vs. Veer Cruiser: What’s the Difference?

The biggest difference between the Veer Hauler and Veer Cruiser systems comes down to who—or what—you need to carry.

Veer Cruiser systems are designed to transport children and gear, with two-seat and four-seat options for families who still need a ride for little passengers. The Veer Hauler skips passenger seating altogether and dedicates its design and capacity to cargo, organization, and hauling gear.

The easiest way to decide?

Choose a Cruiser when your kids still need the ride. Choose the Hauler when they can walk—but all their stuff still needs one.

Who Is the Veer Hauler Best For?

The Veer Hauler is best for families who regularly carry a lot of gear and want a more capable, organized alternative to a lightweight folding wagon. It makes the most sense when hauling is already part of your routine—not just something you do once or twice a year.

✓ Parents transitioning out of the stroller years
✓ Sports families spending weekends at fields, courts, tournaments, or practices
✓ Families who regularly head to the beach, lake, or pool
✓ Camping and outdoor families
✓ Families attending concerts, festivals, farmers markets, or other outdoor events
✓ Families with dogs who want a dedicated way to carry pet gear or bring their dog along
✓ Parents who already use a utility wagon frequently
✓ Families frustrated by flimsy wheels, weak handles, limited capacity, or poor organization in basic folding wagons
✓ Anyone who likes the idea of pre-packing gear into removable bins instead of constantly unloading and repacking
✓ Families looking for one hauling system that can adapt to different activities and seasons

The Hauler may be more system than you need if your typical outing involves carrying only a cooler, a couple of towels, or a small amount of gear a short distance. But if you are already the family hauling chairs, equipment, coolers, bags, and half the garage every weekend, that is exactly where the Hauler starts to make sense.

Is the Veer Hauler Worth It for Families?

At $599, the Veer Hauler is not an inexpensive folding wagon—and it really shouldn’t be evaluated like one.

The better question is whether your family needs an occasional wagon or a dedicated gear-hauling system.

After personally buying more than one lightweight wagon that promised to make family outings easier, I learned the hard way that there is a difference between something that can hold your stuff and something you can actually depend on to haul it. If your wagon comes out a few times a year for a short walk from the parking lot, a simpler option may be all you need.

But if you are hauling gear every weekend, loading up for full beach days, sports tournaments, camping trips, outdoor events, or family travel, repeatedly compromising with a lighter-duty wagon may stop making sense.

That is where the Hauler separates itself. The SmartDeck flatbed, removable SmartBin system, high hauling capacity, push-or-pull design, terrain upgrades, cargo accessories, and organized storage options are all built around frequent, real-world use rather than the occasional trip.

For families who truly need that level of capability, the value is not just in how much the Hauler can carry. It is in making all that gear easier to organize, move, unload, and manage from one outing to the next.

The Veer Hauler is not the next stroller your child rides in.

It is the next system that carries everything else.
